Learning from Daddy?

Jake knows now to deny responsibility when he lets one rip.

"Wasn't me!"

Brings a tear to my eye....

Happy Birthday Jakey

Jake loves Buzz Lightyear so I got him this:

Can't wait to see his little face light up when he sees it. Also I bought him a big Play Doh set and trains and a drawing/magnetic blackboard and I'm going to get him a t-shirt. I love Jake to bits.

Sunny funny weekend. Two parks. Two mad J's. BEWWWWWWWWW!

Friday evening flew by: sunshine, fun trip home, dinner and bed before we knew it. Saturday was the big one. Early up and off to Phoenix Park. Jake ran about full of energy, pointing at flowers and telling me,

"Yellow."

Point. "Purple."

Point. "Yellow again!"

We went to the big pillar/obelisk and Jake ran up and down the hill with a big grin on his face:

We spent hours in the sunshine laughing and playing. Jake is always up for a laugh and this day was no exception. I flew him about like an aeroplane, tickled him til he was nearly crying with laughter, and basically acting the eejit to keep him grinning. Mission accomplished!

Before I knew it it was afternoon and we were to set off into town, pick up a few things, but not before...

I'd chat to him, tell him how funny he was and pull a funny face and he'd go from solemn to hysterical in one second. I love Jakey and I love how happy he is all the time, you can even tell just by his cheeks he has a grin in this one:

We spent the day eating ice-cream and chocolate and running around in the sun. We were both kids and it was delightful. On the Ha'penny Bridge I took a picture of the two of us:

When we got to Stephen's Green it was eveningtime and ever-energetic Jake kept going. Balancing on the little railings, pointing at the trees ("TREE!") and smiling up at me.

Jake inspected my camera. Look at his little content face as he figures out how the batteries go in...

He's a straight-up poser. And rightfully so.

I had him in stitches doing the Thomas the Tank Engine music, doing this big mad loud
 "Bewwwwwwwwww!"
noise at the middle and end of the song. Every time he'd lean in close, knowing it was coming, and when it came he'd jump nearly out of his socks and laugh out loud, his hair would flop back and oh what a funny weird little pair we are.
Home-time: on the bus, it's 8pm, I'm shattered. He's not. "Bus again!"

We both conked after dinner. Bed. Sleep. Sunday rushed past. We swept back to Wexford. Jake slept on my lap. I woke him just as we approached the stop, cuddled him close. Off the bus, I stood him up,kissed both his cheeks, looked him in the eyes and said "Now be good for your Mammy." Jake grunted, half-asleep.

I wave goodbye, and he's gone til next time!

Little Things that make Jake Awesome

When Jake's happy, he pats my back or his knee or the dinner table and grins.

When Jake's in my arms and we sing, he takes my hand.

When he sings, his little lisp is adorable. His head wobbles and he gives it his all.

When we watch Thomas, he says their names as they appear on-screen.

When we watch Winnie the Pooh, he jumps to his feet and dances.

When I say "Mammy...Daddy...Nana...Grandad...Uncle Mick!" he does too...and the best part is when he says "Cul Mick".

When it's bedtime, Jake lights up and gives his Nana a hug and cuddles into her. He's a good boy.

When I tell him I love him, he says "I you!" and means it.

Jake laughs at almost everything. He is the happiest little boy in the world and I love him to bits. He makes me so proud to say "Jake is my son." And when I think of him, which is often, my heart warms and I often stop just to be thankful to be the dude Jake calls "Daddy."

Pictures worth a thousand words...Jake's laughs are priceless.

This post is short and sweet because really, Jake was just a gem. Grins when he sees me, lots of fun home. Weekend full of giggles and games. He's copying me now. When I say things he copies me. I say "Lovely" a lot and now he grins to himself and says it too.

Putting his shoes, his socks, his slippers on, he'll say "Sock...sock again!" He's grasping and figuring out and coming out of his shell and it's beautiful to see and experience. I'm proud to help him grow and be happy, and I love him more than any words could even begin to describe.

Saturday and Sunday Jake and I come up with a new game in the back garden. I honker down and he runs at me grinning and giggling. I scoop him up, swing him about, make funny noises. Jake focuses on laughing so hard and so long his little cheeks are roaring red and his eyes are squinty. He's so much fun and always so mischievous. he grabs a box and wears it like a hat.

He is a gem.
